Basement Finish
A basement finish to remedy an unfinished or underutilized basement is a gold mine for creating more space in your home.
- If your basement is completely unfinished and you need a contractor to complete the work, we can work with your contractor like we would a builder to help you choose the right finishes to make your newly finished space one you can’t wait to spend time in.
- If your basement is already finished but is in need of an update or repurpose, Mielke Brothers is a great place to start.
There are many different design aspects of a basement finish to consider:
- The size and placement of windows to determine the amount of natural light your new space will receive.
- How to define different activity areas if your basement is one big space.
- The purpose you want your finished basement to serve – media room, kids’ playroom, gaming and hangout for your teens, arts and crafts room, relaxing retreat, second living room, etc.
- A lighting plan with layered lighting to help keep the basement from feeling so much like a basement.
- The right flooring on a concrete subfloor where there’s always the risk for moisture.
- Window treatments that can make small windows look larger.
- A wet bar or kitchenette to make drinks and snacks convenient.
- Your basement bathroom, and if there is already a plumbing rough-in in place. (If not, we can help you plan out the most logical location for a bathroom based on your home’s existing plumbing and drainage.)
If you don’t love your basement, you won’t use it. We will help you love it. Make an appointment with one of our designers and we can help you get started planning your basement finish.
